Peruvian Orchids... an unlimited passion!

The native orchids of Peru represent some of nature's most beautiful expressions, as revealed through shape, color, texture, fragrance and adaptation to diverse habitats.

Our country, with 84 of the 103 biodiversity zones found on earth, is home to more than 3,000 of the 30,000 known orchid species, but it is estimated that only about 50% of the Peruvian species have so far been discovered.

The most important recent discoveries have been Phragmipedium peruvianum (kovachii) in 2002 and Phragmipedium besseae in 1981, both in the Moyobamba area.

BiOrquidTropic began as a conservation program, concentrating on the reproduction of species in danger of extinction, such as Chloraea pavonii (the Lima Orchid) and Psychopsis sanderae (the Royal Butterfly Orchid). Today, we have enlarged our collection to over 100 indigenous species and expect to reach over 500 species in the near future.

We are true orchid enthusiasts, and derive great pleasure from watching our orchid seeds germinate, form protocorms, leaves, roots and sometimes even flowers inside the sterile bottles, until they reach the moment they must be taken out for acclimatization and flowering.

Though Peru 's orchid wealth is seemingly endless, our environment is fragile and must be protected. However, because of advances in biotechnology and our location in the midst of Peru 's immense biodiversity, BiOrchidTropic is uniquely able to bring Peru 's orchids to homes and collections world-wide in an environmentally responsible way.

We thank you all very much for visiting BiOrchidTropic Peru Laboratories™ and we look forward to being of service to you.
